Children At Risk in Montgomery County

All-Day Kindergarten -- Following our study to review all-day kindergarten opportunities offered in the county and to whom these opportunities are provided, and study the process for and fiscal impacts of implementing all-day kindergarten in Montgomery County school districts, the the LWVMC reached consensus on a position statement in April 2005. This year, the League will continue to educate the community and raise awareness of our position.

Following a recommendation by the LWVMC, the LWV-Indiana (LWVIN) elected to make All-Day Kindergarten a state study item in 2005, and in 2006, reached concurrence on mandatory Kindergarten attendance with an all-day option. The LWVMC will continue to assist the state League as we explore opportunities for action at the state level.

National Study -- Immigration

Immigration -- The LWVMC, along with Leagues across the country, is participating in a 2-year national study on Immigration, under direction from the LWV of the United States (LWVUS). As part of this extensive national study, the LWVMC plans to hold a local informational public forum, a member discussion meeting, and a member consensus meeting, the results of which will ultimately lead to the LWVUS's creation of a position statement on the issue of Immigration.

LWVIN State Position Review

State Position Review -- The LWVMC is participating, along with all Indiana Leagues, in a review of LWV-Indiana positions. Each review committee will make a recommendation to the LWVIN Board as to wording changes or re-study of an issue. This state-wide review will ensure that all LWVIN position statements are up-to-date and relevant.
